The first part of the road to Tahlee was made up of raised stony road. The rock had been quarried from the hillside and used to raise the road above the level of the saltmarsh. This was the most overgrown part of the road and finished at what children of half a century before called “the black swamp”.
Today it was still a bit swampy, but it didn’t scare anyone!
